On Monday night my Dad came around about the plumbing problem, and spent some time talking to the guy downsatirs, but they couldn't find out what the problem was. The problem, whatever it is, ian't affecting me, it's really only apparent in the downstairs flat. Dad believes it's the communal waste pipe for the building. He's coming round either tonight or tomorrow night to look at the pipe box in my place to see if he can find anything.
I went out to the cinema after work yesterday and met my mum there. We had dinner at the cafe/bar in the cinema, which was nice, but it takes a long time to get served there. We arrived about an hour and a quarter before our film was scheduled to start and we just got in to the auditoreum at the right time. The film we saw was "Tsotsi", a film from South Africa, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film a few weeks ago. It's about a young gang leader in Johannesburg ('tsotsi' is South African for 'thug'), who shoots a wealthy woman during a car-jacking and later discovers that in the back seat of the car is the woman's baby. For the first time he begins to experience the possibility of redemption. It was a very good film. At times the story is a little predictable, but the acting is astonishing (especially from debut actor Presley Chweneyagae as the lead character), and the film is gritty, violent, exciting, but has genuine heart.
I just had a telephone call from my Dad saying that he was going to be coming around tonight to check on my pipe box. Hopefully then we'll find out what the problem is and if it is in my place. I really hope that it is not in my flat.
I probably won't be on-line again tomorrow because I was planning to go out to the cinema and watch "Manderlay".
