Apr. 18th, 2006 07:35 pmLast night I was watching "Even Dwarfs Started Small", a 1970 film by Werner Herzog. It's set in this unidentified institution set in this desolate rocky landscape (actually Lanzarotte in the Canary Islands), where the inmates have rebelled and spend their time messing around, teasing the farm animals, bullying two blind inmates, setting a truck to drive in endless circles for use as target practice, and stealing the staff's stash of porn. Meanwhile, the seemingly only staff member has barricaded himself in his office and has the leader of the rebels as a hostage. Of course it all descends into surreal mayhem as the inmates set fire to chairs and flowers, and the staff member argues with a tree. As you might have guessed it's a fairly weird film. The whole cast is (as you might have guessed from the title) made up of little people. Mostly everything is shot from their point of view and so it's the world surrounding them that appears distorted and out of proportion. It's a disturbing film that people tend to either absolutely love or absolutely hate. Apparently David Lynch is a big fan.
I recently joined a couple of movie review communities on here under my movie review journal, which if I may make a blatant plug, is at cinema87. I didn't add to it for awhile but I'm trying to restart it again. I also post movie reviews onto my MySpace blog. Actually, because all my MySpace friends are from here, I was wondering whether you wanted to me to keep posting the reviews on MySpace, or on my review journal here, or not at all?
I started back at work again today and it wasn't too bad, really. There was barely any work on the shelves today and so we all had to get stuff from another room, which consisted entirely of making sure that the correct amount of document pages had been scanned onto the computer system. It was really exciting.
I had my quarterly review thing this afternoon, which went well, although I've only been in that department for eight weeks, it couldn't have been that bad. I'm on a three hour training course on Thursday morning on "Diversity Awareness". Pretty much everyone has been on it. It might be interesting.
