I was watching a film on TV last night called My Summer of Love, which was quite a dark film from 2004, set in a small rural town in the north of England. It focuses on a working-class teenage girl called Mona (Natalie Press), who lives alone above a pub with her ex-con brother (Paddy Considine) who is now a born-again Christian, who has turned the pub into a "spiritual centre" and is building a giant cross which he intends to erect on a hill overlooking the village in order to "expunge evil" from the local area. Mona spends her time riding along the country roads on her moped, which doesn't have an engine. One day she meets a wealthy, sophisticated girl named Tamsin (Emily Blunt). The two quickly become friends and they soon begin a romantic affair with each other, but their intense relationship soon comes under threat. It's a beautifully photographed and very artistic film, with plenty of lingering shots of grass and the outside of buildings. It's also very well-acted, but it is very slow moving, despite only running around 86 minutes.

Work was pretty slow as usual. There was a long, and very dull meeting about various new systems and procedures which may, or may not, be coming out sometime next year.

The third all day session of the training course is tomorrow. That's been good, actually! At least it's a break from work.
