Well, last night I went to the speed dating thing. It was held at a bar in the city centre, that was quite a nice one, actually, that I had never been before, although it might have been better if they hadn't been playing music all the time, which sometimes made it hard to hear what people were saying. When I arrived I was given a name badge, with a number on it, as well as a card and a pen, and you had to write down notes about the people you met and decide whether you want to see them again. There were 17 women there and about an equal number of men, and all the women sat at tables, which had numbers displayed on them, and all the men had to sit down at the table which matched the number on the badge, and you were given four minutes to talk to each person before a bell rang and you had to move on to the next one. It was quite organised, actually. This morning all the details of the people who were there have been entered on to the website and you go and select who you want to see again. I had the day off work today (because I knew I would be nervous for most of the day)and I've already been on to the site and out of the two women who have already been on, I have had one match, which I do think is quite surprising. I'll have to see later, of course. I did enjoy it though. It is quite a nerve-wracking experience though, especially if, like me, you are really shy. It is also quite bewildering meeting so many people in such a short space of time, but towards the end, you do start to relax more.

The weather is good today and I can enjoy a day off. I might go to the movies later, I'm trying to decide between "Silent Hill" and "An American Haunting".

Out of the seventeen women who attended the speed-dating all but four have posted their matches and two have matched with me. In fact, the woman who matched with me this morning has sent a text message asking if I would like to meet her tomorrow evening for a drink. I, of course, said that I would. She replied that she would text me tomorrow afternoon with the details. This will be my first date in three and a half years, so I am nervous!

I went to the cinema this afternoon and saw "Silent Hill". It's quite an effective horror film based on a computer game, which I have never played. Basically, the nine year old adopted daughter of an Ohio couple suffers from strange nightmares and severe sleepwalking episodes in which she mentiosn a place called Silent Hill, which she has no memory of when she's awake. Her mother decides to take her to the town of Silent Hill, an abandoned town in West Virginia, which is afflicted by blazing subterranean coal fires. Speeding on their way to the town, the mother swerves the car to avoid hitting a girl standing in the road and bangs her head on the steering wheel, knocking herself out. She awakens to find herself on the outskirts of Silent Hill, a strange town constantly wreathed in fog and constantly falling showers of ash, and her daughter is nowhere to be seen. Worse still, periodically a siren goes and the sky suddenly darkens and strange, dangerous creatures emerge in Silent Hill. It suffers from bad pacing, but mostly it is quite an entertaining film, which manages to be genuinely chilling at times.
