Feb. 24th, 2006 07:03 pmIt was the Alfred Hitchcock class last night, it's odd to think really that this is the seventh week of the course, and there are only three more left. This week's film was "Shadow of a Doubt", from 1943, which happened to be Hitchcock's personal favourite of his own films. It involves a family living in a small town in California welcoming back their Uncle Charlie (played by Joseph Cotton), the families daughter (Teresa Wright) who is also called Charlie, is particularly happy he is back because she feels they have a "special bond". However she begins to suspect that her beloved Uncle Charlie may in fact be the "Merry Widow Murderer" who has made a lucrative career from depriving elderly widows of their money and their lives. It is actually a very suspenseful film, with lots of strange elements to it, and a genuinely scary performance from Joseph Cotton. Next week's film is "North by Northwest" (which is certainly one of Hitchcock's best), and the last two films are "Psycho" and "The Birds".
Today is the end of my first week training on the new department and it has been quite good so far. Certainly more agreeable than my previous job. I'll just have to see how it goes. There are some interesting work colleagues there, including one woman who is from Glasgow, who never stops talking and whose favourite expression is "dear God in Govan" (Govan, by the way, is an area of Glasgow)
I don't really know what I'll do this weekend. I'd like to see that film "Capote" at some point. Tonight I will probably be watching "Blue Velvet" on television. I've seen that one a few times, but it is always good.
