Nov. 2nd, 2006 08:35 pmI was watching a French film from 1968 on television last night called Stolen Kisses, directed by Francois Truffaut. It's a semi-sequel to The 400 Blows from 1959, a semi-autobiographical film which told the story of the troubled childhood of Antoine Doinel (played by Jean-Pierre Leaud). In The 400 Blows Doinel is 13 years old, and Stolen Kises takes up the story nine years later with Doinel about being dishonourably discharged from the Army. He goes to the home of the wealthy family of his girlfriend, Christine (Claude Jade). They set him up with a job as a night clerk in a hotel, but Doinel soon loses the job and ends up working as a private investigator. One of his first cases is on behalf of the owner of a shoe-shop who wants to know why everyone seems to hate him. However Doinel soon falls for his client's wife (Delphine Seyrig), and soon finds his resolution to remain faithful to his girlfriend sorely tested. It's kind of a romantic comedy, but there are quite dark undercurrents. Francois Truffaut was one of the leading lights of the French New Wave films of the 1950s through 1960s. It is a really good film.
It's my mum's birthday today and her and my dad have gone down to London today until Sunday evening.
Things at work were slightly busier, so at least I had some stuff to do.
I have a "friends date" on Saturday afternoon with a woman I met on the same internet site where I met Michele (who is still down in England), so that should be good. Also i should be going out with Joe and his friends tomorrow evening.
