I was watching a documentary on television last night about extras in movies and TV shows. It's not exactly well-paid and they're lucky to work maybe one day a month, but it seemed quite fun. Most people who do it have regular jobs that they do, but it seemed fun, you get to hang around on movie sets and meet interesting people. Most of the people interviewed in the show seemed to really enjoy it. I suppose as long as you're not expecting to suddenly be discovered and become a star, which never happens, although apparently if they are really lucky extras do sometimes get speaking parts. I also watchged one of the seemingly endless cycle of TV shows about movies that have been banned in Britain. The British censorship system was famously strict up until about six years ago (the orginial "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" was banned, and "The Exorcist" was banned on video, both for being too scary).

The buses were on strike today and so I ended up walking to and from work. The journey into work was fine, but the walk back was a nightmare because it was pouring rain and I was wearing a leather jacket and had no umbrella with me. I was absolutely soaked when I got back.

Apparently Scarlett Johansson has been named "World's Sexiest Woman" according to "FHM" magazine. I was aware of that poll, and I voted for Rachael Leigh Cook.

I hate getting stuck in the rain without an umbrella:(
I do not think that Scarlett Johansson is the "World's Sexiest Women."
I definitely think that Rachael Leight Cook is better looking.

At least I've managed to dry everything off now! I was quite surprised that Scarlett Johansson won, to be honest.

I've been an extra for a TV commercial and for the movie The Net. It is kinda fun. And your $60 check at the end of the month says "Actor, non-union."

It really did look quite enjoyable!

A lot of waiting, but it's interesting to see how things work, and the food table is always good.

I knew people that were extras. It's fun to tell your friends, "Hey, look for me in [insert name of film here]."

I knew one lady who showed up at a filming to promoter her son. He was a child actor, and the film was going ot have child actors in it. She figured they could use her son as an extra. The director saw her and asked her if she could dance. She asked what kind of dancing. They were looking for an Irish step dancer. It so happened that she was a step dancer. You can watch the film Blown Away and see her. She's the pretty, stereotypical-Irish-redhead waering the peach colored gown, dancing at the wedding reception. She said they cut out all of her scenes where she danced with both Lloyd Bridges and Jeff Bridges. She had a blast. She's a Vice President at a bank.

That would have been pretty good! I was once around when they were filming "Trainspotting", but I wasn't in the film.

I think my leather jackets okay, thanks.

I didn't think it would be too surprising who I voted for!

I have two friends that have been extras in movies. Of course they still retain their regular day jobs but seem to enjoy just doing the bit stuff as sort of a hobby. One was in the last matrix movie.
